There is something about a perfect reflection that naturally makes you feel calm. Add a beautiful mountain backdrop and the soft colours of sunrise and suddenly the landscape starts to feel almost like a scene from a fairytale.

I visited Elk Lake for one night, hoping to photograph both sunset and sunrise. The evening was completely overcast, so the conditions weren't ideal for photography. It was still an incredible place to spend the night, but the following morning gave us everything we had hoped for.

It was a cold morning, but once the colours started appearing in the sky and reflecting across the perfectly still water, I quickly forgot about the temperature. I remember moving around the shoreline, looking for the composition that would best capture the peacefulness of the moment.

Eventually, I decided to use a telephoto lens to isolate the three mountains in the distance and simplify the scene. I also used a slightly longer exposure to soften the movement of the clouds and make the reflection feel even more peaceful.

The result is an image that represents exactly what I felt standing there that morning: stillness, tranquility and a deep connection with the landscape. This photograph has stayed with me ever since and has become an important part of my artistic journey.
